There are two ways to sign in to the AuthoredUp extension:
- Using your AuthoredUp email address and password
- Using an extension token
The token and the cookie essentially perform the same task: they securely connect the AuthoredUp extension to your AuthoredUp account and verify your identity. Both methods provide the same functionality. The main difference is how your login session is maintained.
Signing in with your email and password
When you sign in to the AuthoredUp extension using your AuthoredUp email address and password, an AuthoredUp cookie is created to keep you signed in and to keep things running smoothly.
If you are already signed in to AuthoredUp on the platform, you can use the Open the extension / Instant login option to sign in to the extension automatically with the same AuthoredUp account. Go to the Account and Settings page → User tab → Extension section. Click the blue button.
Please note that this does NOT involve your LinkedIn cookies. The AuthoredUp cookie is separate from your LinkedIn cookies. AuthoredUp does not access or modify your LinkedIn cookies. For more clarity on our cookie usage, refer to our dedicated article.
Signing in with an extension token
An extension token is an alternative way to sign in to the AuthoredUp extension without using your email address and password or relying on cookies.
You can generate an extension token from the Account and Settings page and use it to sign in to the extension. This can be useful if your browser blocks 3rd-party cookies or if you prefer to use a token instead.

Token or Cookie - Which method is right for you?
For most users, signing in with your AuthoredUp email address and password is the simplest option. If you prefer not to use cookies or your browser blocks them, you can use an extension token instead.
The choice is entirely up to you and depends on your preferences and browser settings. Both methods are designed to provide a secure way to connect the extension to your AuthoredUp account and give you the same functionality.
